Presentation Description:
Computing and computation are increasingly pervading our lives, careers, and societies. But where is computing in the common core? Universities may require calculus for science majors -- but what should every college graduate know about and be able to do with computers? In this presentation, we describe a San Diego county-wide effort to implement a pilot of the new Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles course. This is not your father's computing course -- 2 of its 5 foundational computational thinking practices are communicating and collaborating. This course is intended for all college-bound students, regardless of major, but may also serve as a course to attract students to the field of computing. (http://csprinciples.org)
